Welcome to the Louisiana Task Force.
Scope and goals
The purpose of this WikiProject is to create, standardize, and improve articles about the state highway system in Louisiana. This project will encompass all roadways owned and maintained by the state's highway agency, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (La DOTD). This primarily includes the system of state-designated highways, as well as those portions of the Interstate and U.S. Highway systems located within Louisiana.
Open tasks
A redirect page should be made for each LA route where if a user searches for "LA 8", Louisiana Highway 8 should pop up. If there is already an article for the redirect page, make a disambiguation page or place a disambiguation tag at the top of the article. The WikiProject's completion list will show any redirects that need to be made.

Structure
Articles are organized using facets of the Michigan Plan and the Rockland County Scenario.
- An article covering the state highway system as a whole should ideally be created and titled Louisiana Highway System. The content from the existing article, 1955 Louisiana Highway renumbering, would logically be moved to a sub-section of the new article.
- There are five articles that serve as basic route lists for the various levels of state highway designations:
- List of Interstate Highways in Louisiana
- One route, Interstate 12, is located entirely within Louisiana and has its own article. There are state-level articles for the other Interstate Highways in Louisiana (except I-59), as well as articles detailing the various three-digit auxiliary Interstates in Louisiana.
- List of U.S. Highways in Louisiana
- One route, U.S. Highway 171, is located entirely within Louisiana and has its own article. State-level articles are not generally required for the other three-digit U.S. Highways in Louisiana. Detailed state-level articles are in the process of being created for the two-digit U.S. Highways in Louisiana.
- List of state highways in Louisiana
- Due to the size and character of the state highway system, individual articles are not needed for every route. Instead, a subset of list articles (typically organized in groups of 50) is used to detail most of them, i.e. List of state highways in Louisiana (800–849) and List of state highways in Louisiana (3200–3249). This is a work in progress.
- List of Louisiana Scenic Byways
- List of signed parish roads in Louisiana
- List of Interstate Highways in Louisiana
- Additionally, there is a list article (in progress) for the pre-1955 system of state highways, and a few articles have been created detailing individual routes.
Categories
All state highways are to be placed in. To do this, add [[Category:State highways in Louisiana|xxxx]]
to the bottom of all state highway articles, where "xxxx" is the four-digit sortkey. Louisiana Highway 1 would be "0001", Louisiana Highway 10 would be "0010", Louisiana Highway 100 would be "0100", and so forth. For hyphenated routes, use the format "xxxx-x".
Templates
Infoboxes
The infobox in use is {{Infobox road}} with "state=LA". For state highways, use "type=LA", and for U.S. Highways, use "type=US". For Interstate Highways entirely within Louisiana, or for state-detail articles, use {{Infobox road}} with "state=LA" and "type=I". See each infobox for usage instructions and examples.
Project template
Place this template at the top of all talk pages of articles within the scope of this project.
Map citations
The template, {{cite LADOTD map}} is used to cite the current state, parish, and district-level maps found on the La DOTD website. It can also be used to cite a number of historical maps from different years.
