AR 980 began at AR 9 in Morrilton and ran due east as Sardis Road. The designation turned south to the Morrilton Municipal Airport, where it terminated.[25]
- History
On March 9, 1971, the Arkansas General Assembly requested the Arkansas State Highway Commission include the main road to airports located outside city limits in the state highway system for airports with a runway over 2,000 feet (610 m) and offering fueling and overnight tie-downs. The Arkansas Department of Aeronautics and the Highway Department determined the Morrilton Municipal Airport would meet these requirements following an improvement project to conclude in September 1980. The Commission added the county road to the state highway system as AR 980 on August 13, 1980.[23] The route was truncated on August 28, 1996 to allow for an airport expansion.[24] AR 980 was transferred to county maintenance on August 7, 2024 as part of a swap with ArDOT widening part of AR 113 near Oppelo in exchange for transferring several highways to local maintenance to offset the project's cost.[26]
- Major intersections
The entire route was in Conway County.
