- Aug. 14, 1957 – The official route numbering of the Interstate Highway System is adopted by the Federal Works Agency
- Aug. 14, 1981 – New York's Southern Expressway is extended from NY 391 in North Boston to NY 39 at Springville
- Aug. 15, 1974 – The western leg of Rochester's Inner Loop northbound is relocated from a surface arterial to a freeway further west, completing I-490
- Aug. 15, 1962 – Rochester, New York's Can of Worms is put in service with the opening of a section of the Eastern Expressway, allowing four lanes of travel from downtown Rochester to the New York State Thruway
- Aug. 15, 1963 – Utica, New York's North South Arterial Highway is opened south of Oriskany Boulevard

- Aug. 16, 2005 – The portion of New York's I-490 from exit 9 (I-390 and NY 390) in Gates to exit 27 (NY 96) in Perinton is ceremoniously designated as the "Erie Canal Expressway" by the New York State Legislature
