Highway 226 (AR 226) is a former state highway in Jackson County, Arkansas. Between 1973 and 2019, the former county road carried a state highway designation and was maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD).

Route description

The highway began at a junction with AR 37 west of Tuckerman, a small town in the rural Arkansas Delta. It ran west as a section line road to a junction with AR 17. Continuing west, the highway intersected Jackson County Road 359 (CR 359, O'Banion Road) near Water's Store. State maintenance terminated west of this point, with the roadway continuing as CR 278 (Waters Road).[3]

In 2009, the annual average daily traffic (AADT) ranged from 110-330 vehicles per day.[4]

History

The Arkansas State Highway Commission created the segment along a county road to Water's Store on April 25, 1973.[1] It was decommissioned as part of an improvement project on AR 37 in Jackson County that also returned segments of AR 145, AR 224, and AR 384 to local maintenance.[2]

Major intersections

The entire route was in Jackson County.
