Highway 145 (AR 145, Ark. 145, and Hwy. 145) is a former state highway in Jackson County, Arkansas. Between 1974 and 2019, the former county road carried a state highway designation and was maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).

Route description

Highway 145 began at Highway 367 (and an unsigned Highway 37) in Tuckerman as Estelle Street in a residential area. The highway turns due north near Tuckerman High School, running as a section line road into rural Jackson County. The highway runs north to a dirt road intersection with Jackson County Road 85 (CR 85, Decker Store Road/Paw Paw Road)[4] near Centerville, where the route terminates near the Black River.[5]

The ARDOT maintained Highway 145 like all other parts of the state highway system. As a part of these responsibilities, the Department tracked the volume of traffic using its roads in surveys using a metric called average annual daily traffic (AADT). ARDOT estimates the traffic level for a segment of roadway for any average day of the year in these surveys. As of 2018, the peak AADT was below 1,000 vehicles per day (VPD).[6] For reference, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) classifies roads with fewer than 400 vehicles per day as a very low volume local road.

No segment of Highway 145 was listed as part of the National Highway System,[3] a network of roads important to the nation's economy, defense, and mobility.[7]

History

The Arkansas State Highway Commission created a fourth segment of Highway 145 from a county road beginning in Tuckerman on February 27, 1974.[1] It was decommissioned as part of an improvement project on AR 37 in Jackson County that also returned segments of AR 224, AR 226, and AR 384 to local maintenance.[2]

Major intersections

The entire route was in Jackson County.
