- Aug. 7, 1951 – The Pennsylvania Turnpike is extended west from Irwin to the Pittsburgh interchange at Monroeville
- Aug. 7, 1954 – A gap in the southbound Garden State Parkway from US 9 in Sayreville to the Eatontown Spur is closed, completing the highway within Monmouth County
- Aug. 8, 1957 – The south fork of the bypass of Ithaca, New York's Commons is opened, completing the 'tuning fork'
- Aug. 8, 1958 – Two arterials are opened to service Fulton, New York: a southerly bypass of NY 3, and a realignment of NY 57 along Second Street
- Aug. 8, 1959 – A section of New York's Quickway is extended from Bridgeville around Monticello
- Aug. 8, 1963 – Interstate 80 in New Jersey is extended from Mount Arlington Boulevard to US 46 in Netcong
