- Aug. 4, 1954 – The southbound section of the Garden State Parkway is opened from the Eatontown Spur (now Route 36)to New Brunswick Avenue in Woodbridge Township, leaving only a gap northbound from Eatontown to Sayreville in Middlesex and Monmouth Counties
- Aug. 4, 1965 – New York's Youngmann Memorial Highway is extended from US 62 to the Niagara Thruway, completing the highway
- Aug. 5, 1954 – A section of the Garden State Parkway is extended south from Route 72 in Manahawkin to Greenbush Road in New Gretna
- Aug. 5, 1955 – The southwest section of Rochester's Inner Loop opens, from West Main Street to the Troup-Howell Bridge
- Aug. 5, 1970 – The westbound lanes of New York's Southern Tier Expressway from Steamburg to western Salamanca are opened; the eastbound lanes had opened a few years prior
- Aug. 6, 1945 – The first section of New Jersey's Route S3 is opened, branching from Route 3 in East Rutherford to Route 17 in Rutherford
- Aug. 6, 1976 – A helicopter crashes on Interstate 84 near Patterson, New York, causing power outages and closing the highway for several hours
