Title
I would think that this page would be titled U.S. Route 64 (Arizona-New Mexico) similar to how we do three-digit interstates that go into multiple states like Interstate 275. Markkos1992 (talk) 8:19, 19 July 2024 (EDT)
- If we want to include both states in the title I would prefer U.S. Route 64 in Arizona and New Mexico as that is more in line with the naming convention whereas the parentheses seems to imply this is a separate segment of US 64 in Arizona and New Mexico. Dough4872 13:24, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
- This is one of the reasons why I originally supported the naming convention of Interstate 80 (Pennsylvania) instead of Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania. It works better for scenarios where we merge a short, barely notable highway with a longer one for convenience like this. We have a few such examples and as far as I know the parenthesis is more common. Here's the examples I'm aware of:
- Washington State Route 41 (redirects to Idaho State Route 41)
- State Route 74 (New York–Vermont)
- Las Vegas Beltway (punted and used the name instead of the numbers)
- Interstate 210 and State Route 210 (California) (there's a few like this in California)
- I don't have any strong preference one way or the other, and am even ok with our current inconsistant naming scheme, only because I'm used to it. However, I do think we should at least discuss a consistent scheme.
- Another possibility for this specific case is to merge the AZ portion of US 64 with the article for Arizona State Route 64 instead of US64 in NM. I bring that idea up as an alternative, but have concerns with it. Namely it indulges one of the more common roadgeek fantasies, and I'm not sure we want to do that. Give them an inch and they take a mile, kind of thing.Dave (talk) 14:00, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
- I am against merging US 64 and AZ 64, but otherwise I have no further comment about naming. My main concern is that the current title is technically misleading, Markkos1992 (talk) 8:19, 19 July 2024 (EDT)
- Agreed. The above mentioned Washington State Route 41 is a similar scenario. Dave (talk) 14:25, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
- I'd probably just split the article in two at the state line and be done with it. The same goes for SR 74 above. U.S. Route 33 in Michigan proves that you can do decent articles with some substance on what is a short highway segment. Imzadi 1979 → 23:58, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
- Agreed. The above mentioned Washington State Route 41 is a similar scenario. Dave (talk) 14:25, 17 July 2024 (EDT)
