Mississippi Highway 533 (MS 533) is a short state highway that runs for 8 miles (13 km) from the town of Soso to Mississippi Highway 15 near Stringer. The route features multiple sharp curves, especially on its Jasper County segments. The road has a signed weight limit of 57,650 lbs.[2]

Route description

The route begins in Soso at an angled intersection with MS 28. It continues several miles through wooded forest with a speed limit of 45 mph. Near the community of Amy, there is a sharp 30 mph curve and some large aluminum farm buildings. North of Amy, the road passes through several cattle farm meadows, and the speed limit increases to 55 mph. Just before the Jasper county line, the road intersects Pleasant Home Road at a sharp 15 mph reverse turn.

The route enters Jasper county with a sharp reverse turn at its intersection with County Road 5331. The route passes through a meadow area and Hopewell Baptist church before its junction with County Road 8. After a mile of forest, the route has another 30 mph reverse turn near County Road 5336. As the route nears its end, it meets a 4 way stop intersecting County Road 155 and 153. At this junction, the road turns left, where it continues for a couple more miles through forested area before intersecting with MS 15 near Stringer.[3]

History

MS 533 first appears on state maps in 1933. It was fully paved along its entire route.[4]

At some point between May 2014 and June 2023, the road's intersection with County Road 155 and County Road 153 was converted into a 4 way stop, likely to improve safety.[5]
