Kentucky Route 1428 is a 20.547-mile (33.067 km) state highway consisting of two segments in eastern Kentucky. The southern segment is 17.257 miles (27.772 km) long and runs from KY 122 in Martin north to US 23 and US 460 near Prestonsburg. The northern segment begins at US 23 and US 460 near Hagerhill and runs for 3.290 miles (5.295 km) north to KY 40 in Paintsville.
Route description
Southern segment
The southern segment of KY 1428 is entirely within Floyd County. It begins at a junction with KY 122 in Martin. The route heads roughly north-northeast along Beaver Creek. In the city of Allen, it intersects the concurrent US 23, US 460, and KY 80. The highway follows a meandering path along Levisa Fork north of Allen, intersecting KY 194 in the small community of Alvin. It meets KY 302 on the outskirts of Prestonsburg and heads northwest into the city. In downtown Prestonsburg, the route intersects KY 114 and Kentucky Route 321. The southern segment of the route ends just northwest of Prestonsburg at a junction with US 23 and US 460.[2]
Northern segment
The northern segment of KY 1428 is entirely within Johnson County, which neighbors Floyd County to the north. It begins at a junction with US 23 and US 460 southwest of the community of Hagerhill. From there, the route heads northeast toward Hagerhill. It passes under KY 321, which is accessible via a connector road, and intersects KY 302 in Hagerhill. Past Hagerhill, the route follows Levisa Fork into Paintsville. After crossing Paint Creek, it terminates at an intersection with KY 40.[3]
