Highway 74 (AR 74) is a former east–west state highway in Washington County, Arkansas. The route ran from the unincorporated community of Sulphur City to AR 16 in Elkins. From 1965 to 1971, the highway was maintained by the Arkansas State Highway Department (AHD).
Route description
The highway began at a county road in rural Washington County southeast of the unincorporated community of Black Oak. The route crossed the Middle Fork of the White River before entering the unincorporated community of Sulphur City. The highway then turned northeast and ran to Elkins, where the highway turned east to a junction with AR 16, where it terminated.[3]
History
AR 74 was created by the Arkansas State Highway Commission on August 25, 1965 along a county road in Washington County.[1] The route was decommissioned by the Commission on April 27, 1971 at the request of the Washington County judge in exchange for an extension of AR 265 from Fayetteville to Springdale.[2]
