Template:Texas Mapbook/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Texas Mapbook. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template simplifies the citation of the Texas Department of Transportation County Mapbook in articles relevant to Texas State Highways. Use of this template will allow simple amendment of all citations to the Mapbook in the event a URL or edition change occurs.
Usage
{{Texas Mapbook |year= |page= |accessdate= |link=}}
To complete the template, fill in the following parameters:
- year: the edition of the Mapbook; the current edition is 2018. Not specifying this parameter causes the template to default to the 2012 edition for legacy usage purposes, as it is the oldest edition still cited in articles as of August 2018. Note that the page number references for the 2012, 2014, and 2018 editions are all different from one another, and thus updating editions requires manual modification for each instance of the template.
- The 2012 edition is no longer available on the TxDOT site, and use of Mapbook pages from this date will automatically add the
{{dead link}}
template (and add the article to Category:Articles with dead external links from December 2014), again, for legacy usage purposes. - The 2014 edition is no longer available on the TxDOT site, and use of Mapbook pages from this date will automatically add the
{{needs update}}
template (and add the article to Category:Wikipedia articles in need of updating from August 2020), as the base URL for the 2018 edition is the same as that of the 2014 edition, but the page number references are different, as indicated above.
- The 2012 edition is no longer available on the TxDOT site, and use of Mapbook pages from this date will automatically add the
- page: the page number from the PDF version of the Mapbook, which can be found using this search tool. If citing multiple pages (e.g., for a longer route), it may be desired to cite the Mapbook once and use {{rp}} for page numbers instead of creating multiple similar references.
- accessdate: the date the map was accessed online.
- link: set to no to unlink the publisher. This is useful when using multiple map and/or designation file citations so that the publisher isn't linked in every such citation in the reference list.
