- Dec. 11, 2010 – Open road tolling begins on the Dallas North Tollway.
- Dec. 12, 1962 – Except for portions through Detroit, Interstate 96 (pictured) opens across the state of Michigan.
- Dec. 13, 1966 – Interstate 80N, later Interstate 680 and now Interstate 880, opens to traffic in Iowa.
- Dec. 14, 1989 – The Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway through northern New Mexico is designated a National Forest Scenic Byway.
- Dec. 15, 1967 – The Silver Bridge, which carries U.S. Route 35 over the Ohio River between West Virginia and Ohio, collapses killing 46 people with only five survivors rescued. Its replacement opens two years later to the day.
- Dec. 16, 2019 – Lanes are reconfigured on the Alex Fraser Bridge carrying British Columbia Highway 91 over the Fraser River in Delta to add a seventh and reversible zipper lane.
- Dec. 17, 1988 – Interstate 370 opens in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
- Dec. 18, 2000 – The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority begins collecting tolls at noon on the new western extension of the Creek Turnpike.
- Dec. 19, 1958 – The governor of Arizona dedicates the Mule Pass Tunnel along U.S. Route 80 near Bisbee.
- Dec. 19, 2000 – The Puncheon Run Connector freeway in Dover, Delaware opens to traffic
- Dec. 20, 2018 – A portion of California State Route 134 is designated the "President Barack H. Obama Highway".
- Dec. 21, 1979 – Construction is completed on the Governor Edwin C. Johnson bore for eastbound Interstate 70 over the Continental Divide in Colorado
