Template:Irish place name
Irish: {{{1}}}
This template is used on many pages and changes may be widely noticed. Test changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |
This template displays an Irish language version of a place name and optionally an English language translation of the Irish name. Example:
- Code:
{{Irish place name|Caisleán an Bharraigh|Castle of the Barry family}}
- Result: Irish: Caisleán an Bharraigh, meaning 'castle of the Barry family'
The second parameter is optional. If it is not included then the article will be added to Category:Untranslated Irish place names. Example:
- Code:
{{Irish place name|Caisleán an Bharraigh}}
- Result: Irish: Caisleán an Bharraigh
An additional optional parameter is no_translate
. This can be invoked in order to stop unwanted pages being added to Category:Untranslated Irish place names.
For example, if the Irish and English language versions mean the same then there is no point in repeating this information. However, it would be inappropriate to add the page to Category:Untranslated Irish place names. In order to suppress, an article being automatically added to Category:Untranslated Irish place names, simply add no_translate=true
when using the template. Example:
- Code:
'''Milestone''' ({{Irish place name|Cloch an Mhíle|no_translate=yes}})
- Result: Milestone (Irish: Cloch an Mhíle)
