AARoads:United States/U.S. Route 66/Requested articles
Initial attempt to see which sites listed on external lists of US Route 66 landmarks still lack en.Wikipedia articles; this list is compiled from multiple sources.
NPS Discover Our Shared Heritage Travel Itinerary: Route 66[1] is a selection of just over a hundred sites, primarily or entirely National Register-listed structures and landmarks. This is not a comprehensive list of every structure (or even every NRHP-listed site, of which there are more than 200 on the road) of note on U.S. Route 66. Other lists of Route 66 landmarks based on web and forum posts exist, including a Route 66 "Master List" of Attractions at [2]. These list four to five times as many sites, but inclusion does not infer notability or provide links to reliable sources. Another relatively comprehensive list of attractions is on route 66 news, but with food and lodging broken out from the main list of attractions as this is lengthy.
In some cases formerly-notable structures which are now gone, like Aztec Motel or Coral Court Motel, are removed or omitted from the NPS itinerary but remain on other lists as "ruins" or "demolished".
There is a need for a page on the National Parks Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, which currently only has a brief mention at Omnibus_Public_Land_Management_Act_of_2009#Title_VII which says little or nothing. Some Route 66 museums lack individual articles, as do events like the Route 66 International Festival. Route 66 association needs expansion.

- Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/US66 itinerary (a core list of about 100 documented NRHP sites)
- Talk:List of Cars characters/Archive 1#Route 66 people and places is the list of sources acknowledged in Pixar's Cars (film) in 2006. Historian Michael Wallis (who is the voice of the sheriff in the film) brought studio personnel to many key US66 landmarks during research for the movie. Inclusion on that list usually indicated that the owners of a business provided info about US 66, but does not infer the business itself appears in the film and does not establish notability per se. Some notable places on that list, however, do still lack Wikipedia coverage.
