When an article is nominated for B-Class status, the only criteria considered are the B-Class criteria. Unfortunately, this criteria doesn't cover what NY and other road editors have widely considered to be the essential pieces of a "good" road article. So, when nominating an article for B-Class status, check it for the following:
- Make sure it meets the latest standards set by AA:MURA. The standards may change without notice at any time, so ensure that the article still meets them when you nominate it.
- Set the
|maint=
parameter in the infobox if needed. For Interstate Highways (|type=I
), U.S. Highways (|type=US
), and state routes (|type=NY
only), the infobox will display "{{Infobox road/maint/USA}}" by default, which is correct for most routes. However, some routes—especially those that enter cities—have portions that are maintained by other levels of government. Consult the NYSDOT quadrangles ([1]) or the NYSDOT inventory listings ([2]) to determine what agency/agencies maintains the route. - Make sure it has a map. If it doesn't have a map, add a request at AA:MAPS. A map is required for an article to go any farther than B based on past precedent, and the general consensus is that a good road article should have a map. As such, all GAs without maps are categorized for tracking by the project's talk page template.
- Looks for gaps in the route's history. The histories of many routes were fleshed out during a mid-2010 sweep of the project's articles; however, some gaps or inconsistencies with other articles may still exist. Thus, the history section should be checked for areas where dates can be narrowed down upon nominating the article for GA. Also check to see if the route was involved in a maintenance swap that hasn't already been mentioned in the article.
Generally, all of NY's Bs meet or exceed these and the standard B criteria. See this category for a full list of New York's road-related Bs and examples of what an article nominated for GA should look like.
