This template is used to cite sources in Wikisource.

Usage

This template supports most of the parameters available to {{citation}}. For information about those parameters see that template's documentation.

All parameter names must be in lowercase.

cite wikisource-specific parameters

  • |anchor= – In combination with title, chapter and/or wslink, the link to wikisource can be extended to a specific section by adding anchor name in this parameter. This must be the same anchor name as the anchor on Wikisource. This will not change the displayed text in the citation; to do that, use the at parameter as well. This parameter can be used in addition to wspage as it affects the main link, not the page number link.
  • |firsticon= – alias of |iconfirst=; when set to any value, the {{cite wikisource}} rendering will have a leading Wikisource icon; alias:
  • |iconfirst= – alias of |firsticon=
  • |noicon= – when set to any value, Wikisource icons will not be added to Wikisource links
  • |nolink= – when set to any value, Wikisource will not be linked when passed through to the |via= parameter
  • |plainchapter= – The chapter of the book, written in full; overrides |chapter= parameter and will not create a link to Wikisource
  • |plaintitle= – This, or |title=, is the only required parameter; overrides |title= parameter and will not create a link to Wikisource. Can be wikilinked but only to an existing Wikipedia article
  • |prescript= – alias of |vb=
  • |scan= – many works hosted on Wikisource are proofread from scans also hosted by the project. This parameter will provide a link to the source scan on which the citation is based, if required. Enter the pagename of the source scan at Wikisource. This pagename should include both the namespace (Index: or Page:) and the filetype (usually .djvu). Example: |scan=Page:Popular Science Monthly Volume 20.djvu/127
  • |vb= – alias of |prescript=; when set to any value, adds the text: 'This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domain:' before the rendered citation
  • |wsat= – an in-source anchor on Wikisource when |wspage= or |wspages= is inappropriate; forms a linked in-source value to an anchor in the source for {{citation}} parameter |at=; use |at= to display an in-source location value different from the value assigned to |wsat=
  • |wslanguage= – ISO 639-1 (two-letter) or ISO 639-2 (three letter) language code of the wikisource hosting the work (if not English Wikisource) (For example, fr indicates French Wikisource.); overrides {{citation}} parameter |language=; (list of supported codes / names)
  • |wslink= – the full page name on Wikisource. To be used where the title is different from the page name or where subpages are involved (particularly with periodicals and works in volumes). If |chapter= is used, the interwiki link will append the chapter name to |wslink= as a subpage. If |title= is used, the link will follow |wslink= but display as |title=. If |plaintitle= is used, the link will only create a link to Wikisource if |chapter= is also used.
  • |wspage= – the page number on Wikisource; forms a linked page number value to a page-number anchor in the source for {{citation}} parameter |page=; use |page= to display a page number different from the value assigned to |wspage=
  • |wspages= – a page number on Wikisource; forms a linked page number value to a page-number anchor in the source for {{citation}} parameter |pages=; use |pages= to display the multiple page numbers and / or page range(s)
  • |_debug= – a useful aid when trying to understand why a {{cite wikisource}} template is not working; see §examples

Copy a blank version to use. Remember to use the "|" (pipe) character between each field. Please delete any unused fields to avoid clutter in the edit window.

No templates or magic words are necessary when using an ISBN, OCLC number, or DOI as an identifier. Instead of using the id field in these instances, simply use the appropriate field. For instance, type isbn= followed by the number instead of id=ISBN. Templates are available for other identification number types to be used in the ID field ({{ISSN}}, {{LCCN}}, {{LCC}}, etc.) if these aren't available.

Backward compatibility

An earlier iteration of this template used only a few unnamed parameters. This template is backward compatible with the previous usage. The following format will function correctly:

{{cite wikisource|work title|author|wikisource language}}

Only the first parameter is necessary; the rest are optional.

Examples

{{cite wikisource|Sense and Sensibility}}

Sense and Sensibility  – via Wikisource.

{{cite wikisource|Sense and Sensibility|Jane Austen}}

Jane Austen. Sense and Sensibility  – via Wikisource.

{{cite wikisource|Sentido y sensibilidad|Jane Austen|es}}

Jane Austen. Sentido y sensibilidad  (in Spanish) – via Wikisource.
