Route Z is a short highway in Pulaski County, Missouri, with a short portion in Phelps County. It serves as a sort of outer road/bypass for Interstate 44 in Pulaski County, providing access to towns formerly served by Route 66. For the majority of its length, Route Z is a four-lane divided highway, using the pavement of a former alignment of Route 66.
Route description
Route Z begins as a two-lane road at a junction with I-44 BL in St. Robert. The highway heads east for 2.8 miles (4.5 km), where it meets Missouri Route 28 and I-44. It continues east for approximately 1 mile (1.6 km), becoming a four-lane divided highway using a former alignment of Route 66, where it has an at-grade intersection with Teardrop Road, which provides access to Devil's Elbow.
It meets Teardrop Road again 1.2 miles (1.9 km) later, where it then continues east for 2.7 miles (4.3 km) before entering Phelps County, where it briefly becomes a two-lane undivided road, and then ends 0.2 miles (0.32 km) later at an intersection with Route J near I-44.
