County routes in Nassau County, New York, are maintained by the Nassau County Department of Public Works and have been unsigned since the 1970s.[1] The designations are largely in alphabetical order. Routes C26 to C50 are listed below; unused route designations are skipped.

County Route C26

County Route C26 is known as Bryant Avenue and extends for 1.85 miles (2.98 km) between Roslyn and Roslyn Harbor, serving as a major thoroughfare through both municipalities.[3][4]

CR C26 begins at Old Northern Boulevard in the heart of the Village of Roslyn. It travels north, soon crossing underneath the William Cullen Bryant Viaduct and NY 25A, thence intersecting Wittes Lane. It than continues north into the Village of Roslyn Harbor. It then meanders its way north, passing Cedarmere, eventually reaching Glenwood Road (CR E25) and turning east. It then continues east to Glen Cove Avenue (CR E19), where it terminates.[3][4]

The portion of CR C26 between Old Northern Boulevard and Glenwood Road was formerly designated as part of CR 7, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered – while the remaining portion was designated as CR 183.[5]

History

Bryant Avenue is named for American poet William Cullen Bryant.[6][7] Bryant, a longtime Roslyn area resident, was a very influential member of the Roslyn community.[7] His former estate, Cedarmere, is located off of Bryant Avenue within the Village of Roslyn Harbor and is now a public park, preserve, museum, and historic landmark.[6][7][8][9]

County Route C27

County Route C27 is known as Burnside Avenue and extends for 0.69 miles (1.11 km), entirely within Inwood.[3]

CR C27 begins at Doughty Boulevard (CR 75). It then continues east, intersecting the Nassau Expressway (NY 878), before reaching Rockaway Turnpike (CR 257), at which point it becomes West Broadway (CR E51).[4]

Burnside Avenue was formerly part of NY 103 between c. 1931 to c. 1934, and was also formerly part of CR 10.[11]

County Route C28 is known as Charles Lindbergh Boulevard and Charles Lindbergh Boulevard West. It is divided into three segments – Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, Charles Lindbergh Boulevard West, and the Charles Lindbergh Boulevard Spurs – and is located entirely within East Garden City (Uniondale).[3]

History

Charles Lindbergh Boulevard is named in honor of aviator Charles A. Lindbergh, whose historic transatlantic flight to Paris, France originated at nearby Roosevelt Field.[13] Additionally, much of the road was constructed over the former site of Mitchel Air Force Base.[13]

County Route C29 is known as Cantiague Rock Road and extends for 1.30 miles (2.09 km) between Jericho and New Cassel.[3] The southern terminus of CR C29 is West John Street (CR 12) in New Cassel in the Town of North Hempstead. From there, it enters Hicksville in the Town of Oyster Bay and travels north along the western edge of Cantiague County Park, intersecting Barry Drive and thence Laura Drive, before crossing over the Northern State Parkway and entering Jericho. It then veers northwest to Saratoga Drive, at which point it briefly turns back towards the north for a short distance before turning towards the west-northwest to its northern terminus at Jericho Turnpike (NY 25).[3]

County Route C30 consists of two roads: Carman Avenue between East Meadow and Salisbury and Carman Avenue Extension – a spur of Carman Avenue – within Salisbury.[3][4]

Carman Avenue (CR C30) begins at Hempstead Turnpike (NY 24) in East Meadow. From there, it travels north, passing the Nassau University Medical Center, East Meadow High School, and the Nassau County Jail, thence continuing north along the eastern edge of Eisenhower Park to Salisbury Park Drive (CR E15) – at which point it enters Salisbury. It then continues north-northeast and intersects Stewart Avenue (CR E33). It then continues north, soon intersecting Carman Avenue Extension (CR C30), and then continues north to its northern terminus at Old Country Road (CR 25).[3] CR C05 was formerly designated as CR 36, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[16]

Carman Avenue Extension (CR C30) is a short spur of Carman Avenue (CR C30), entirely within Salisbury. It begins at its southern terminus at Carman Avenue (CR C30). It then travels northeast to the Wantagh State Parkway and providing access to the southbound lanes. It then veers north, paralleling the parkway as a marginal roadway for a short distance until it reaches its northern terminus at Old Country Road (CR 25).[3][4]

County Route C31 is known as Cathedral Avenue and travels between Front Street (NY 102) in the Incorporated Village of Hempstead and Cherry Valley Avenue (CR C38) in the Incorporated Village of Garden City.[4] The route is 1.59 miles (2.56 km) in total length.[3][18]

The route begins at Front Street (NY 102) in Hempstead. It then travels north-northwest, soon intersecting Fulton Street (NY 24). It then continues north-northwest, passing St. Paul's Place and then entering Garden City shortly thereafter.[3] From there, it continues north-northwest, crossing the Long Island Rail Road's Hempstead Branch, thence continuing straight a short distance to an intersection with Stewart Avenue (CR 177); Cherry Valley Road then continues north-northeast as a residential street owned and maintained by the Village of Garden City.[3][4]

CR C31 was formerly designated as part of CR 62, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[19]

County Route C32 is a short county route in Great Neck Estates, known as Cedar Drive. It is 0.52 miles (0.84 km) in total length.[3][4]

CR C32's western terminus is at Bayview Avenue (CR C09). It then travels east through the heart of Great Neck Estates, soon reaching its eastern terminus at Middle Neck Road (CR 11).[3][4]

West of Bayview Avenue, Cedar Drive continues west as a residential street owned and maintained by the Village of Great Neck Estates.[4]

CR C32 was formerly designated as CR 76, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[5]

County Route C33

County Route C33 consists of a short, 0.43-mile (0.69 km) stretch of Cedar Swamp Road located entirely within the City of Glen Cove.[3][4]

CR C10 begins at the City of Glen Cove–Town of Oyster Bay border. It then continues north-northwest to the Long Island Rail Road's Oyster Bay Branch, which the road crosses at-grade; the road becomes Glen Street (CR C95) at this location.[3][4]

CR C33 was formerly designated as part of CR 107 (along with Glen Street (CR C95), prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered; these two streets were bypassed in the 1960s by the Glen Cove Arterial Highway.[5]

County Route C34 is a county road in Roosevelt, consisting of Centennial Avenue West.[3] It is 1.25 miles (2.01 km) in total length.[4]

CR C34 begins DeMott Avenue (CR C57). From there, it travelse southeast for one block, and then turns east.[3][4] It then continues east, eventually intersecting Brookside Avenue North (CR C23). It then continues east, passing Pennsylvania Avenue and then Nassau Road (CR 7B), before reaching Babylon Turnpike (CR D11), at which point the county route designation ceases and the road becomes Centennial Avenue East – a residential street owned and maintained by the Town of Hempstead.[3]

CR C34 – along with DeMott Avenue (CR C57) – was formerly designated as CR 23, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[16]

County Route C35 is a 1.34-mile (2.16 km) county road, consisting of Central Avenue and traveling between Bethpage and Plainedge.[3][4]

CR C35 begins at Hicksville Road (NY 107) in Bethpage. It then continues east-southeast, soon intersecting Stewart Avenue (CR E33). It then continues east, soon intersecting Broadway (CR C22), thence continuing east-southeast for a couple blocks before veering towards the southeast and crossing above the Seaford–Oyster Bay Expressway (NY 135). It then intersects Central Avenue South, and then curves towards the east-northeast towards its terminus at Thorne Drive and the southbound ramp for the Bethpage State Parkway; the roadway then continues east as Merritts Road (CR D54).[3][4]

CR C35 – along with Merritts Road (CR D54) – was formerly designated as CR 186, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[25]

County Route C30 consists of two separate routes: Central Avenue and Linden Boulevard between Valley Stream and North Valley Stream, and Central Drive within Baxter Estates.[3][4]

CR C36 is a 2.48-mile (3.99 km) county road between Valley Stream and North Valley Stream, which begins as Central Avenue at Sunrise Highway (NY 27) in Valley Stream. From there, it travels north-northwest, soon intersecting Merrick Road (CR 27). It then continues north-northwest, intersecting Remson Avenue, thence meanders its way north-northwest to the Valley Stream–North Valley Stream border, at which point it enters the latter community. It then continues northwest, passing Margaret Drive and thence Fernwood Drive, at whioch point CR C36 then curves towards the north-northwest and crosses underneath the Southern State Parkway at Exit 13 N-S, at which point Central Avenue veers towards the west-northwest, becoming Linden Boulevard.[3] CR C36 then continues west-northwest along Linden Boulevard, soon intersecting Elmont Road (CR C71). It then continues west-northwest to the Queens–Nassau County border, where the CR C36 designation ends; Linden Boulevard continues west of this location through Queens and thence Brooklyn.[3][4] CR C36 was formerly designated as part of CR 20, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[19]

CR C36 (Baxter Estates)

Central Drive (CR C36) is a short, 0.35-mile (0.82 km) county route, known as Central Drive and located entirely within the Incorporated Village of Baxter Estates. It begins at Main Street, its eastern terminus. From there, it continues north and west, winding its way through the heart of Baxter Estates, to its intersection with Shore Road (CR E25), at which point Central Avenue terminates.[3][4]

CR C36 was formerly designated as CR 15A, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered – and prior to the Town of North Hempstead assuming ownership and all maintenance responsibilities for Main Street, which was once a portion of CR 15.[5]

County Route C37 is a 0.42-mile (0.68 km) county route located entirely within Bethpage, known as Cherry Avenue.[3]

County Route C38 is a short, 0.25-mile (0.40 km) county road entirely within the Incorporated Village of Garden City. It consists of the segment of Cherry Valley Avenue between Rockaway Avenue (CR E06) and Stewart Avenue (CR 177).[3][4]

CR C38 begins at Rockaway Avenue (CR E06). It then continues northeast, crossing the Long Island Rail Road's Hempstead Branch at-grade, before intersecting Stewart Avenue (CR 177), where the county route designation ends; Cherry Valley Avenue continues north as a residential street owned and maintained by the Incorporated Village of Garden City.[3][4]

CR C38 was formerly designated as part of CR 84, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[19]

County Route C39 is a 3.37-mile (0.55 km) county route known as Chicken Valley Road.[3][4] Its western terminus is at Cedar Swamp Road (NY 107) in Old Brookville, and its eastern terminus is at Glen Cove Oyster Bay Road (CR C90) in Matinecock.[3][4] From its western terminus at Cedar Swamp Road (NY 107) in the Incorporated Village of Old Brookville, CR C39 travels northeast, intersecting Hegemans Lane (CR D08). It then continues northeast, eventually intersecting Piping Rock Road (CR D89), at which point it enters the Incorporated Village of Matinecock. From there, CR C39 continues northeast, soon intersecting Wolver Hollow Road (CR E65), before curving north and eventually intersecting Glen Cove Oyster Bay Road (CR C90) – the northern terminus of the CR C39 designation.[3][4]

The route begins at Scudders Lane (CR E19) in the Incorporated Village of Roslyn Harbor. It then travels north to Grove Street (CR D04), with its centerline forming the border between Roslyn Harbor and Glenwood Landing. It then continues north to Glenwood Road (CR C94), its northern terminus.[3][4]

CR C43 was formerly designated as CR 115, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[5]

It then travels north one block to Grand Avenue (CR C99), the northern terminus of the portion of North Columbus Avenue under Nassau County's ownership and jurisdiction.[3][4]

County Route C45 is a designation applied to two separate roads: Commercial Avenue in East Garden City (Uniondale), and Compton Street in Bay Park.[3]

CR C45 begins at the Garden City village line (west of which the road is owned and maintained by the Village of Garden City). It then travels east, soon intersecting Oak Street (CR D74). It then continues east, intersecting Quentin Roosevelt Boulevard (CR E01), thence continuing east to West Road, and thence to its eastern terminus at Geoffery Avenue.[3][4]

County Route C47 is a 1.77-mile (2.85 km) county route, known as Corona Avenue and North Corona Avenue, connecting Valley Stream and Franklin Square.[3][4] The route begins at Merrick Road (CR 25). It then travels north-northeast, eventually intersecting Hendrickson Avenue, and eventually Keller Avenue and Remson Street. It then continues north-northeast for a few blocks until meeting Rockaway Avenue (CR E06), at which point North Corona Avenue's name changes to Corona Avenue. CR C47 then continues north-northeast, crossing over the Southern State Parkway, thence intersecting Dutch Broadway (CR C62). The road then continues north-northeast a short distance before veering east to its northern terminus at Franklin Avenue (CR C83).[3][4]

CR C48 begins at Zeckendorf Boulevard (CR 260). It then travels east for a distance before curving towards the southeast, soon intersecting Merchant's Concourse. It then curves northeast before turning back to the east, shortly thereafter intersecting with Merrick Avenue (CR 4) – its eastern terminus[3][4]

Cottage Row

Cottage Row (CR C48) is a 0.24-mile (0.39 km) road in the City of Glen Cove.[3][4]

CR C48 begins at an intersection with Chestnut Street, Hill Street (CR D18), and Roosevelt Street. It then travels east, intersecting Brewster Street (CR C19), at which point the route terminates.[3][4]

East of this intersection, Cottage Row becomes North Lane, which is owned and maintained by the City of Glen Cove.[3][4]

CR C48 was formerly designated as part of CR 48, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[5]

County Route C49 is a 0.55-mile (0.89 km) county route, known as County Seat Drive. It is located entirely within the Incorporated Village of Garden City.[3][4]

The route begins at Eleventh Street (CR C70). It then travels north, intersecting South Drive and then Supreme Court Drive (CR E36), followed by Court House Drive (CR C50). Continuing north, it then reaches Old Country Road (CR 25) – its northern terminus.[3][4]

CR C49 serves as an access road for many of Nassau County's government office buildings.[4][37][38]

County Route C50 is a short, 0.18-mile (0.6 km) road in the Incorporated Village of Garden City, known as Court House Road.[3][4]

CR 50 begins at County Seat Drive (CR C49). It then travels east for one block, passing and providing access to the Nassau County Courthouse, terminating at Clinton Street (CR 1).[3][4]

CR C25 was formerly designated as part of CR 93A, prior to the route numbers in Nassau County being altered.[40]
