The B6540 is a B road that starts at Long Eaton and finishes in Castle Donnington. It is roughly about 3 miles long. It is the old A453 road. The B6540 starts at Long Eaton Green and passes a couple of shops before reaching Long Eaton market place. After the market place the road is called Tamworth road. After this the road passes a library and an old derelict grammar school which used to be the upper part of The Long Eaton School. The road runs parallel with the Erewash Canal for half a mile. After this Tamworth road passes some houses including some minor shops, a petrol station and a pub. After this the road comes to a roundabout and goes under a bridge that is 200 years old. Attached to the bridge is Long Eaton and Sawley station. The road passes through the centre of Sawley before passing The blue bell, The nags head and The White Lion pubs. Opposite the White Lion is Sawley Parish Church. There is also Church Farm houses and the Harrington Arms pub with The White House Restaurant and Bothe Hall next to that. The B6540 then goes over an 800 year old River Trent bridge which was last refurbished in 2004. After this the road passes Sawley Marina and The Plank and Legit pub before going under the M1. After half a mile the road meets a large A50 roundabout just outside Castle Donnington where it ends.
