The A-496 is an interurban road in Andalusia, which links the Huelva towns of Valverde del Camino and Cabezas Rubias, belonging to the Basic Articulation Network.[1]. It constitutes one of the connections within the region of El Andévalo. It passes next to the population centres of Sotiel Coronada and Calañas.

Route description

The A-496 leaves an intersection with the N-435, near Valverde del Camino, as a continuation of the A-493, and ends at an intersection with the A-495, in Cabezas Rubias, connecting with the A-495 which serves as a continuation.

The average daily traffic intensity decreases as you move away from Valverde del Camino. In its first section, up to Calañas, there are 2,000 to 5,000 vehicles/day, dropping to the range of 500 to 1,000 vehicles/day for the section from Calañas to Cabezas Rubias.[2]. The percentage of heavy vehicles decreased in the same direction, from 7% near Valverde del Camino to 5% in its last section.[3] The A-496 has an average speed of between 71 and 80 kilometers per hour (44 and 50 mph) between Valverde del Camino and Calañas; and from this point to its end in Cabezas Rubias, the average speed is 81–90 km/h (50–56 mph).[4]

Connections

Along its route it connects with several provincial roads, listed in order from south to north: the HU-4101 turns off to the left before reaching Calañas; and after that point the HU-5101, the A-475, the HU-6100 and the HU-6402 leave.
