The G0711 Ürümqi–Ruoqiang Expressway (Chinese: 乌鲁木齐至若羌高速公路), also referred to as the Wuruo Expressway (Chinese: 乌若高速公路), is an expressway in Xinjiang, China that connects Ürümqi to Ruoqiang County.[1]
History
Construction of the Shengli tunnel (Chinese: 天山胜利隧道) through the Tianshan mountain range began in April 2020, despite a number of difficulties due to the region's extreme weather conditions and construction at over 3,000 metres above sea level, the tunnel was inaugurated in December 2024.[2] In addition, several concerns were taken to protect the environment after the construction of the bridge as it crosses near Urumqi Glacier No.1 as well as several protected water sources of Xinjiang.[3] The tunnel is located on the section of the G0711 connecting Korla within the Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture.[4]
Route
The expressway starts in Saybag District, Ürümqi, then passes through Korla and Yuli County along the eastern part of the Taklimakan Desert to Ruoqiang County.[5]
